Leila Janah was a social entrepreneur who employed thousands of people in Africa and India in the fervent belief that jobs, not handouts, offered the best escape from poverty. She started Samasource in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2008, with the aim of employing poor people, for a living wage, in digital jobs like photo tagging and image annotation at what she called ‘delivery centers’ in Kenya, Uganda, and India. Jobs 💸
AngelList
Search tech & startup jobs, find new tech products and invest in startups. If you are a student looking to snag a role at a startup company use this site to find and DM founders of really cool startup companies.
1) First, create your profile
2) Search for the startup you would like to work for:
Small, mid-size or large.
Tech or Non-tech roles
SF, NYC or other location
A specific domain: AI, software tools, robotics, etc
3) Apply for the posted job or directly message the founder of the startup. Don’t worry that you're not good enough for the company or the founder might not reply back. SHOOT YOUR SHOT and magic will happen.
Cold email/messages do work because many of the times startups do not post many positions online. Here is an example. I was a student in college and was able to snag a software engineering internship at Tesla with this simple message:
Dear [Job Poster/Hiring Manager],
I found your profile on angelist/Linkedin and wanted to reach out to discuss potentially working as an intern at Tesla. I am a computer science major at UC Davis. I’d love to chat about whether my background might be a fit for any of your openings.
Thanks, [Your Name]

Tech talks 💻
What are microservices?
Microservices are a hot topic in software development circles. Many enterprises are turning to a microservices software development architecture from traditional monolithic architecture, where the application is one big system.
Source: DZone
The main idea behind a microservice architecture is that applications are simpler to build as well as maintain when broken down into smaller pieces that work seamlessly together. When using microservices, you isolate software functionality into multiple independent modules that are individually responsible for performing precisely defined, stand-alone tasks. These modules communicate with each other through simple, universally accessible application programming interfaces (APIs).
